I’m a 90ies Kid

I’m a 90ies Kid

I was born in the 90’s. A time when Grunge had its high and replaced the happy and fancy Glam era. (Actually the word Grunge had its first appearance way earlier in the 60/70’s and was used to describe the harsh and dirty Rock sound some bands already started to develop back then.) But the “Grunge” we all think of nowadays stroked its roots in the US underground scene in the beginning of the 90’s.

The music genre is often associated with bands like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains or Nirvana and the music is described as a mixture of Punk and Heavy Metal. I wouldn’t consider myself the biggest Grunge fan, however the classics of this genre are surely represented in my music collection. One of my favs is the album ‘Badmotorfinger’ from Soundgarden and I also love Mad Season’s album ‘Above’. I highly recommend you to take the time and listen to that album from beginning to the end on a lonely evening. Maybe take a glass of wine, light some candles and just get lost in your own thoughts. That’s how I like to spend my Friday nights off working. I link the two albums for you below.

And although the music took its way more to the dark and depressed side around that time, I like to look back at those years with good memories. I was a little kid, full of ideas that I constantly turned into actions. Back then I had my own little world I created in my head for myself. I was fully committed to what I liked and wanted, not caring about what other people think. A great quality that often gets lost when we grow up. This wasn’t different for me. At some point in our life we all start to realize that there are certain standards and rules in this world we have to follow in order to get accepted by the crowd. This can in some situations surely be the right thing to do, but when it affects your dreams or passions I think it is quite harmful. You can quickly find yourself trapped in this situation whether it’s just about little things like what to wear or what music to listen to. But lots of us get also influenced by the crowd when it comes to more crucial things like being together with a person or your career goals. For me these are all things that I want to decide without any influence from outside. So nowadays I like to put myself in the head of my younger, more carefree self when it comes to tough moments or hard decisions. It helps me to go the way I really want. And I totally think it’s worth trying things you want to achieve in life, rather than not doing them at all because of fears or the opinion of others. I prefer to fail and learn then to look back and think “what if…?”. What do you think?

For this post the outfit is all 90’s inspired. I love pieces like flannels, crop tops or chokers from this decade. Also heavy boots and lots of layering is typically for the nineties. However it was really hot outside so lots of layering wasn’t really an option for me here. Also the typical 90’s makeup is kept really simple. I only applied a little bit of grey eyeshadow and mascara plus a cold nude toned lipstick on my lips.
